Apple MacBook Air (late 2020) with M1 Chip is super fast

Even though Apple products are an extortionate affair here in my beloved country, people like me who are after quality and yet simplistic design have no choice but to buy them whenever they are available. The latest Apple MacBook Air (Late 2020) with M1 chipset is here with its smooth performance and slim design.

The Apple MacBook Air (Late 2020) is just a refreshed MacBook Air (Early 2020) that was released in April. There’s no major overhaul to admire as this very MacBook looks exactly identical to its predecessor. The only small change is to the function keys on the Magic Keyboard.

Then what’s so special about this latest MacBook, and why is this release so noteworthy? Well, Apple included its all-new M1 processor, which is the first time the company has created its own silicon chipset for a Mac. The latest M1 chip brings a 3.5x processing power with an extra battery life of up to six hours. With that, there is no doubt that the future for the MacBook is looking really promising. Kudos to the fast chipset and improved battery life. Check out all the details, expected price in Nigeria, and availability below.

The MacBook features a 13.3-inch Retina Display with a 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution, True Tone, P3 wide color gamut, and 400 nits max brightness

The new MacBook Air is similar on the outside to the Intel-based one launched earlier this. It has the same wedge-shaped design, same weight, Touch ID fingerprint login, a huge trackpad, the updated Apple scissor-switch keyboard. Not much has changed on the outside since the previous edition, and it would be hard for you to tell the two apart from the outside. Three color choices are still available: Space Gray, Gold, and Silver. The all-metal architecture is durable and high-quality.

Two Thunderbolt 3 inputs with USB-C support are on the left side. A lone headphone jack is located on the right side of the laptop.

The latest MacBook Air does not have a fan and we all know that when performing intensive activities on Macs with fans, you can see some marginally better-sustained efficiency, however, there’s no much difference between them since most benchmark tests showed big improvements when compared to their predecessors with fans and Intel chipset.

The Apple M1 is the first SoC specifically designed for Mac and has been developed using a 5nm process which will make data processing much quicker and consuming less power.

Apple spoke about its M1 chip’s graphics capabilities and it was good. Based on several tests, the M1 (with eight GPU cores) outshines Iris Xe (Intel’sintegrated graphics) accompanying 11th Gen processors.

With its latest iteration of macOS, known as Big Sur, Apple has engineered the M1 chip to work in full conformity with no indication of lag as you turn between apps.

If you want a system that will have enough storage for years to come, you can increase the SSD storage when buying, which is a good idea, but if you go for the 256 GB option, you can still work with external SSDs.

You can upgrade the RAM from 8GB to 16GB on each M1 Mac. It’s a smart idea to do so if you have the money, since getting extra RAM would never go wrong.

Since the M1 chip is derived from the DNA of the iPhone and iPad chips, then  Macs with the M1 chip can download iPhone and iPad apps directly from the Mac App Store for that purpose. You would not need to re-buy them if you own them on your iPhone or iPad.

Apple claims that the latest M1-based MacBook Air will offer 18 hours of video playback and 15 hours of wireless internet. The company also claims the latest M1-based MacBook Air has a 50 percent better battery life than the last Air, and the battery inside is no bigger than the previous ones. Many of these battery gains are due to the chipset which brings better efficiency.
