The iOS 13 is the latest update to Apple phone’s operating system. It comes with major updates that fix bugs and security issues like bypassing of screen lock. It also comes with a Dark Mode theme which is quite cool and good for battery saving. This guide is to help you update to the latest OS (iOS 13) which is the latest iPhone OS released on 19th September. But before going into the upgrade let’s see devices that are not upgradeable to the new iOS 13.
Devices That Can Be Upgraded.
OK, any predecessor of the iPhone 6 won’t use the new OS. Also, the upgrade is not available for iPad 6S and its predecessors.

For any other iPhone device not able to upgrade to the new OS the issue must come from a different angle.
Don’t be scared if you’ve never upgraded your iPhone’s OS before, it is usually simple and safe.
Now to the steps on how to upgrade your iPhone then we’ll talk about possible solutions, that’s if you’re finding it difficult to update your device.
Have a Backup before Upgrading.
Backing up your files is important in case of any loss of files while upgrading even though it’s quite unlikely to happen. Follow these simple steps to back up your files to your computer.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer then open iTunes on your computer.
- Locate the iPhone icon just close to the middle of your screen and click on it.
- Choose “The Computer” to use your computer as your backup and click on “Back Up Now”.
You can use iCloud as your backup. If you don’t know how to do that follow these steps here.
That’s all with the backup.
Before going to the next stage where you have to upgrade your device make sure your phone is at least 50% charged or plugged to a power outlet during the update, have enough storage space as the upgrade size is more than 2 GB (It is advisable to have at least 4GB free space).
There are 2 ways you can update your device: through iTunes and through your phone.
How to Upgrade to iOS 13 using iTunes
- Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes.
- Locate the iPhone icon and click on it. It will take you to where you can manage your device.
- Click on the iOS 13 update listed there.
- Next, agree to Apple’s terms of service.
It will take a while to complete the update so be patient. That’s all.
How to Upgrade to iOS 13 with your iPhone
- On the Settings app chose General.
- Tap on Software Update.
- You should see iOS 13 there. Tap “Download and Install”.
It does take time here so you should be patient while the download and installation take place.
If you’re having a problem updating your device you may have to check that you have internet access or connect to WIFI. Also, make sure that your device is eligible for the update.
