At its October 2020 event, Apple unveiled the iPhone 12. There are four variants of the iPhone 12 and we have already discussed the iPhone 12 yesterday. The release date is October 23th and the iPhone 12 Pro price in Nigeria starts from N550,000.
The Apple iPhone 12 Pro is the bigger variant of the iPhone 12 and the most important differentiating factor is the camera. iPhone 12 Pro features a triple camera on the back which includes a telephoto lens, ultra-wide lens, and wide lens. Just like the other variants, it features 5G connectivity, an A14 bionic chip, and flat edges.

Design and Display
The iPhone 12 pro stylish redesign is that the flat edges have replaced the rounded edges just like the iPhone 12, except where it is packaged in a stainless steel band. Four different finishes will be available: Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Pacific Blue. Furthermore, the screen is covered by ceramic shield glass which makes the screen, even more, tougher than any smartphone around. Also, just like the other iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 12 Pro has IP68 certification and this means that the iPhone 12 Pro is waterproof down to six meters for 30 minutes.
The iPhone 12 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen with a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, 460 PPI pixel density, 1200 nits peak brightness, Dolby Vision, True Tone, Haptic Touch, and HDR support. Unfortunately, the display does not have the 120Hz refresh rate we are seeing in most flagship devices.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max pack similar specifications for the most part, but the clear distinction is the camera, in which some noteworthy variations exist. The iPhone 12 Pro is packed with a new f/1.6 aperture, a seven-element wide camera that provides a 27 percent enhanced low-light photo and video quality.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro’s rear camera array consists of three lenses; an Ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view and a Wide lens, alongside is a Telephoto lens (Which isn’t available in iPhone 12) which offers 4x optical zoom and a 10x digital zoom in. Apart from that, there is also a LiDAR scanner that allows faster low-light image stabilization, more realistic Augmented reality experiences, and also enables portraits in night mode.
Interestingly, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be able to use the new Apple ProRAW photo file format. What this means is that users can shoot RAW picture files while simultaneously using the computational photography features like Deep Fusion and Smart HDR which can then be edited in the native Photos app and other advanced editing applications. These ProRAW photo file formats can also be edited, possibly using Adobe applications.
HDR video can be shot on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Actually, it’s the first camera to record in Dolby Vision HDR.
The Face ID is still operated by the front-facing TrueDepth camera which is a 12MP selfie camera that2 also supports Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, and Night mode.
Performance and Battery
The iPhone 12 Pro is driven by the latest A14 Bionic chip which supports 5G connectivity. The A14 Bionic chip uses the 5nm process and Apple claims that it is the fastest chip ever put into a smartphone. The chip features a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU which guarantees console-quality gaming. With that being said, the iPhone 12 series will definitely offer a hardcore gaming experience.
Apart from that, the A14 processor brings fresh computational photography features for all the iPhone 12 models. For the front-facing camera and the ultra-wide camera, night mode is now available. And for all cameras, Deep Fusion is available. For more natural-looking images, there’s a Smart HDR 3 that fine-tune elements in a photo by adjusting white balance, contrast, texture, and saturation.
The iPhone 12 Pro provides up to 18 hours of video playback, 11 hours of streaming video playback, or 65 hours of audio playback when it comes to battery life.
The latest iPhone 12 Pro offers fast charging, which uses a 20W power adapter to provide a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes.
To all the new iPhones, Apple has introduced a magnet onto the back which aligns a wireless charger from MagSafe to easily charge the device. It is also possible to attach other accessories like wallets from MagSafe.
Apple claims MagSafe charging to be faster than Qi wireless charging and this is due to the fact that MagSafe will use 15W charging while Qi wireless charging limited to 7.5W.
Apple ditched from the iPhone 12 package the power adapter and EarPods, and these products have to be bought separately. By default, all iPhone models now ship with a USB-C to Lightning cable.
