LG has officially announced its new 2020 mid-range device named LG Velvet. The Velvet marks a big shift for LG given that it is a substitute for the LG’s G series and the official price of the LG Velvet is $750 approx N290,000.
This device could have been the official LG G9 but LG has no choice but to forget about the G line and move forward for new innovation and make it to the top of the Android market.
The most important features of this device are the minimalist design and the raindrop triple rear camera configuration which consists of a 48 MP main lens, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 5 MP depth sensor.

Design & Display Of LG Velvet

As far as I know, one of the major selling points of the LG Velvet is the design. The LG Velvet includes what LG calls a 3D Arc Design with curved display edges intended to encourage easy grip.
The device comes with small bezels along with a slight curve screen on the edges. The triple rear camera modules are arranged distinctly from most other smartphones, with LG claiming this arrangement as the “Raindrop style”. The arrangement is vertical and looks like a dropping rain. Yeah from the bigger main camera sensor to the smaller LED flash. Isn’t this minimalist style? I mean this is what a minimalist will want to hold. A phone with a simple design. No circular or rectangular bump that we see in most phones nowadays.
The LG Velvet has a 6.8-inch huge screen (Sadly, it is FHD+ 60Hz panel), with a clear resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. A teardrop notch at the top of the screen which increases room for an even broader view experience.
The LG Velvet will come with some accessories. But will be sold separately. The accessories are the stylus pen and a secondary screen attachment.
The LG Velvet will be available in four eye-catching colors — Aurora White, Aurora Green, Aurora Gray, and Sunset Illusion.
Thankfully, LG still maintains an IP68 rating and 810G certification for the Velvet.

Camera

The main camera is a 48 MP sensor, and it is accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle sensor of 8 MP, and a depth sensor of 5 MP. Unfortunately, there is no telephoto camera. As for the selfie camera, it is a 16 MP lens which is located in a waterdrop notch.
LG claims that her camera is utilizing “quad binning” technology, which provides clearer images when taken in dim lightening.
Performance & Battery
Internally, the device comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset which supports 5 G. It packs an 8 GB RAM, and 128 GB ROM which can be expanded by microSD.
Two good things about the chipset are: it supports the 5 G modem and can smoothly run all the device operations. Meanwhile, most Android flagship phones pack a stronger chipset like the Snapdragon 865.
It is sad to see a stylish device that is considered a flagship without rocking one of the latest Qualcomm flagship chipsets. Not even the Snapdragon 855! No wonder why most of the blogs I visited consider the LG Velvet a mid-range device or a lower flagship.
The LG Velvet provides a strong 4,300mAh battery which supports fast charging and also supports Qi wireless charging.
Finally, the LG Velvet will be shipping with Android 10 and Sense UI. However, we still don’t know whether it would receive an upgrade to Android 11 in a good time.

Conclusion
When it comes to design, the LG Velvet is good. It has a huge battery and still maintains a slim design with 180g weight! This is to tell you how simple and stylish the device is.
But one thing, the device performance, and camera compatibilities are quite disappointing when compared with rival flagship devices. This is why some people consider the device as a mid-range device and not a true flagship.
