Motorola has revealed that it will soon release a rollable smartphone that is packed with a vertically expandable scrollable OLED screen. This announcement was made at the Lenovo Tech World 2022 event. The anticipated smartphone has even been revealed by other manufacturers who had made it out of the news for quite a long time.
According to the manufacturer, this smartphone works in a way that a button has to be pressed by the user to extend or retract the smartphone’s display. Amazingly the size is only 4 inches long at first, but when expanded, it can expand to 6.5 inches diagonally. A benefit is that the smartphone can easily fit your pocket due to its 4 inches size.
Notably, the device’s content should be able to adapt to the size of the display. This, in turn, improves usability. The smartphone’s bottom was also placed to shorten or lengthen the display. However, the number of cameras and how the rears would be designed for the device are yet to be known.
Although this device has not been officially available in the digital market yet, the concept seems impressive and promising, which could attract those who love to use foldable smartphones.
In addition, Lenovo also displayed a rollable laptop that reveals a square shape when opened up from the standard landscape orientation. This makes it an excellent choice for documents or videos shot in the vertical TikTok format.
According to Brian Leonard, the vice president of design at Lenovo, the standard laptop and tablet known as the ThinkPad 360P served as the jumping-off point for the company’s research into new factors. It provides users with a novel way to multitask for increased productivity, enhanced browsing, and other benefits.
On the other hand, as well as rumored plans for a dual-foldable tablet to debut within the next couple of years, Samsung has already introduced two new smartphone form factors. If Motorola’s new rollable smartphone form factor piques the interest of the South Korean company, it will be fascinating to see what comes of it.
