The OnePlus 9 Pro is a justifiable flagship phone that at least in terms of camera and display, can compete with the best Android phones on the market. To be honest, when it comes to market share in Nigeria, OnePlus is just a niche product for selected users finding a certain extent of elegance in their Android device.
In Nigeria, there is a high chance that if a consumer wants to purchase a top-tier Android phone it will be Samsung Galaxy. Samsung marketing has resulted in a significant increase in market share. More phones are sold here by Samsung, Xiaomi, and even Oppo than by OnePlus.
OnePlus, on the other hand, has built itself as a brand capable of creating better phones that seem to be significant alternatives to the top brands like Samsung, Apple, and Huawei. With just a few minor compromises, the $969 OnePlus 9 Pro achieves its aim as a better alternative to the aforementioned brands.
Design & Display
The device has a premium appearance. Morning Mist, Forest Green, and Stellar Black are the three colors available on the OnePlus 9 Pro’s glass back. I think these color options depend on where you are, you might be limited to those colors.
The phone’s edges are made of aluminum. The power button is on the right side, and above it is a silence slider that allows you to easily mute your device. On the left side is the volume button.
The phone’s bottom edge houses the USB-C charging port, as well as the SIM card tray and speakers
All in all, the OnePlus 9 Pro has a premium appearance that can compete with any other high-end device currently available.
The use of high refresh rate AMOLEDs have been a clear hallmark of OnePlus devices and this time the company even included the LTPO panel which takes the display to the next level. At FHD+ and QHD+ resolutions, the OnePlus 9 Pro will run at 120Hz, but this newer AMOLED has a proper dynamic refresh rate that can be adjusted from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the activity and this would help with battery life to some extend.
The screen is curved, 6.7-inch with a resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels and can produce up to 1,300 nits maximum brightness, and supports the sRGB and P3 color gamuts. This display is absolutely good for smooth scrolling and gaming.
OnePlus 9 Pro Camera
OnePlus has put a lot of work into refining its smartphone photography for this model specifically. This is shown by its collaboration with Hasselblad. Both companies are focusing on natural color tones, similar to those seen on Pixel devices rather than those seen on Galaxy devices
The phone has four cameras on the back which consist s of a 48 MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX689 primary lens, a 50MP (f/2.2) IMX766 ultra-wide camera lens. There’s also an 8MP telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom, as well as a 2MP monochrome shooter for higher-quality black-and-white images. There’s a 16 MP (f/2.4) front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
The primary lens has been modified to work with the camera’s advanced Hasselblad Pro shooting mode, which allows users to take huge 12-bit RAW images.
When comparing photos taken with the OnePlus 8T, or 7, you’ll notice that the colors are much more natural, which is assumed to be due to the handy work of Hasselblad collaboration with OnePlus. The picture quality is similar to that of Pixel devices rather than that of Samsung devices.

Performance of OnePlus 9 Pro
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are among the first devices to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, which is manufactured using the 5nm fabrication process. Both devices are operated by the Snapdragon 888 Mobile Platform, which includes an X60 5G modem.
The Snapdragon 888 is an eight-core processor that outperforms the Snapdragon 865 by up to 25 percent with better performance. It has one “Prime Core” based on the ARM Cortex-X1 architecture with a clock speed of up to 2.84 GHz is included. Three additional performance cores, based on the A78, run at 2.42 GHz. In addition, four energy-saving cores based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture and clocked at up to 1.8 GHz have been integrated. For more info about the chipset, check out HERE
The Adreno 660 GPU is in charge of graphics, and it offers a 35 percent performance boost over the Adreno 650.
The OnePlus 9 will come in two configurations. We’ve 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage and a12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, there is no SD card slot for memory expansion and therefore it is highly recommended to go for the 256GB storage option.
The OnePlus 9 Pro lets you keep 25 percent more apps open in the background than before, thanks to OxygenOS 11 optimizations like Turbo Boost 3.0. According to OnePlus, this is likely because the RAM is compressed, making the data on the processor smaller, and Virtual RAM is used to turn idle phone storage into temporary RAM, allowing you more to work with when you really need it.
While there are other flagship phones with larger batteries, the OnePlus 9 has a 4,500mAh battery which I believe that’ll get you throughout the day. One of the benefits of the OnePlus 9 is its 65-watt super-fast charging tech and it can fill it up from zero to 100% in 30 minutes.
The OnePlus 9 Pro, on the other hand, supports wireless charging up to 50W with the OnePlus Wireless Charger. That is indeed right, the OnePlus 9 Pro will charge wirelessly faster than the Galaxy S21 Plus and iPhone 12 Pro.

Yes, the OnePlus 9 Pro starting price of $969 is very high. The days of OnePlus flagships costing hundreds less than their competitors are long forgotten, but I’m not sure if that’s a big deal. I’ve been a fan, and while it’s disappointing to see the company abandon its tradition with the 9 Pro, I understand why. The 9 Pro reflects the peak of the company’s capabilities. Without a doubt, this phone has all the specs that will please Android enthusiast like me
For those who have an older OnePlus smartphone, I highly recommend this device. These users will definitely experience a significant improvement in the overall features, specifically when it comes to the camera and display. This is a good choice for those who want a phone for photography and video work. Also a good option for gamers that are looking for the best performer around.
The OnePlus 9 Pro, in general, has a lot going for it. This is one of the best Android flagships available right now, and there isn’t much else in the price range where the OneP stands out.
The OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t a flagship killer in an ordinary way. It’s, however, a high-end edition of the OnePlus 9. While it is less expensive than its top-tier competitors, it is still a costly phone but with a lot of promises. . Even though OnePlus phones are only purchased by a small percentage of customers compared to Apple and Samsung, the company has a long enough history to merit its reputation as a well-known brand.
Should you buy it?
Buy it for these 3 major reasons
If you’re looking for a phone with high-end features at a low cost then the OnePlus 9 is the best Android phone you can get below $969.
If You’re looking for a perfect photography experience for a reasonable price then the OnePlus 9 Pro is worth considering at this price point.
The battery on the OnePlus 9 Pro charges within just 30 minutes with a cable and 45 minutes with wireless charging. If you dont like waiting for just an hour to charge your phone, then the OnePlus 9 Pro is for you.
You should not buy if
You want more storage
While the base model has 128GB of storage and the bigger model has 256GB, with no support for an SD card. Dont buy if you are the kind of person that likes recording 4K videos or installing a lot of apps.
