The Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G is the latest member of the Reno family and it is a phone that lies in the boundary between high-end mid-ranger and low-end flagship. Just like what we saw in the Reno 4 Pro 5G, the device comes with an appealing design and may be confused with a Samsung flagship when it is seen on the front side.
Oppo has ramped up on the hardware front in its 5th version but I think that is really late when you consider other devices that pack that hardware some months ago, however, the design may stand out from the crowd. The frosted glass back is still here, Then there is the thin aluminum frame and on the front, there is a Gorilla-glass covered display.
There is no argument that Oppo is one of the biggest makers of mid-range phones that look nice and phones that also have a number of latest/trending features. However, there are some flaws but that’s understandable after all there’s no such thing as a flawless phone. There’s one main thing I don’t like about Oppo and it is how the company prices its phones. Just like the Reno 4 Pro, the latest Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G shares the same fate.
Having to compete in the $400 to $500 price range against OnePlus Nord dominance is not an easy matter.
The 6.55-inch AMOLED curved screen comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a pixel density of 402PPI, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a typical screen brightness of ~ 800nit. With this display, you can’t go wrong when it comes to brightness, responsiveness, quality, and viewing angles because it is at the equal ground with some of the best flagships.
But one good thing the display lacks is support for HDR 10. Just like in the previous Reno series, the phone has an optical in-display biometric for authentication.
As for the camera aspect, the device packs 5 cameras in total but lacks a telephoto lens which is available in the Reno 4 Pro 5G. The camera looks to me like a downgrade when you compare it with Reno 4 Pro 5G, however, the Reno 4 Pro 5G release price is even more expensive than the Reno 5 Pro 5G.
We have a single front main camera of 32 MP with an f/2.4 aperture. As in the trend, there’s a quad-camera setup on the rear which consists of a 64MP main camera (f/1.7 aperture), an 8MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2 aperture, 2MP (f/2.4 aperture)macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor (f/2.4 aperture).
The Reno 5 Pro 5G is an outstanding everyday driver if you are someone who is not concerned by specs, which implies that there is little to worry about in everyday use. The device packs a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor which is a 5G-integrated SoC’s and has 8 cores and a maximum frequency of 2.6GHz.
In most cases, it will provide a smooth experience, although it can lag a bit when playing hardcore games or multitasking.
The device has a 4,350 mAh battery that can comfortably last for one day of moderate use. A 65W fast charger is included in the box for super-fast charging. Similarly, the device comes with Oppo’s ColorOS 11.1 and it is based on the Android 11 operating system. The UI has been further optimized and improved when compared to previous versions.

With super-fast charging tech, silky output, and a sleek design, the new Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G does all it sets out to do but its price brings it up against way too powerful competition.
Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G does not give many faults thereby creating a good opportunity for not buying a $1000 flagship phone. Assuming if the Reno 5 Pro 5G was released about 4 months ago, it would have been much more compelling. The Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G found itself at the wrong time.
When you look beyond the processor and camera, there’s a lot to like about the Reno 5 Pro 5G, but it’s just not worth it at this price. I will advise you not to upgrade if you have the Reno 4 Pro 5G or you may consider buying the standard Reno 5 5G or buy this one if the price falls under $400. You can save some cash with the OnePlus Nord at $377.
