Design & Display of Redmi 9
The Redmi 9 offers a plastic construction that is not bad in this price range and this is even advantageous for some consumers given that you won’t worry about having a broken back glass. To make it feel a little luxurious in hand, a textured finish has been provided to the back.
looking at the back, the camera setup is mounted vertically except for the depth sensor and the LED flash which are placed by the side. At the bottom of the camera setup is the fingerprint sensor. The location of the sensor can be confusing with the camera set up.

The left side includes a triple card tray for two nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. The right side has the power button and the volume buttons. At the bottom is very much full of a headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, the main mic, and the speaker grille. At the top, we have the secondary noise-canceling mic and an IR blaster.
The Redmi 9 is fitted with a 6.53-inch FHD+ IPS screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 395ppi pixel density, and 400 nits of max brightness. The screen comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for extra protection.
For an entry-level phone, the display quality is above average because, at this price point, a 720p display is usually anticipated but we are getting even more. Strictly speaking, a 1080p gives more visuals that are clean. The quality of the screen makes the colors vivid and bright.
In 2020, the inclusion of a quad-camera module on a budge phone shouldn’t surprise you. Redmi 9 has a quad-camera module that consists of is a 13 MP (f/2.2) main sensor and it is backed by a second 8 MP (f/2.2 )ultra-wide sensor with a 118-degree capture angle. The picture quality is not the best but decent for its price category.
For macro and bokeh shots, the third and fourth sensors are responsible and they are 5 MP (f/2.4) and 2 MP (f/2.4) respectively.
The front camera is an 8 MP (f/2.0) shooter which is fair. Portrait mode is available and operates with face detection and supports HDR.

Performance & Battery
The MediaTek Helio G80 and either 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM, or 4 GB RAM with 64 GB ROM are the performance specs of Redmi 9. The Helio G80 is an octa-core processor with 2 x 2.0GHz Cortex-A75 cores and 6 x 1.8GHz Cortex-A55. Mali-G52 MC2 is the GPU. For reference, the Cortex-A75 was released in 2017 and is the main Chip architecture used in processors such as the Snapdragon 845. Redmi 9 is not a gaming phone, but it doesn’t mean you can’t play games. What it means is that heavy games like PUBG or Asphalt won’t run in detail. However, casual games can be run in detail.
Luckily the battery on the Redmi 9 is remarkable. The large 5,020mAh battery can last for a long time (2 days depending on usage) before draining and the phone has fairly efficient hardware and software.
The Redmi 9 runs on MIUI 11 on Android 10, but at some point, users should be able to expect an upgrade to MIUI 12. Thanks to the low-power processor and Xiaomi’s overall MIUI optimization, the battery can offer plenty of juice.

If you have N60,000 – N70,000 budget and you are searching for a decent phone, then this is one of the reasonable options to consider. The market for entry-level phones toughens, however, at N65,000, this device becomes a contender that can compete and even outshine any phone in this price range. If you’re planning to purchase an N65,000 phone, then that’s a really good choice for you, however, I think you should first look at devices such as Redmi Note 9 or Redmi Note 8 before making your decision. Because adding a 10-15k to your 65k budget can get you Redmi Note 8 which is a far better option.
