Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S21 series last week and we now have the details of the S21 Ultra. In order to be among the best and most powerful phones, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra stands out in many ways from the standard Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus. The S21 Ultra packs dual telephoto lenses for extreme zooming, supports S Pen, and has a 120Hz OLED screen that is wider, clearer, and more dynamic.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra appears to be $200 less than lasts years’ S20 Ultra release price and yet it is the best and most powerful Galaxy phone with lots of flagship experiences and features without any form of compromises.
Design & Display
Unlike in the S21 and S21 Pro, the super-tough Victus Gorilla Glass covers the front and back of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. We all know that every part of a device has its price, but the pricey materials and design certainly make the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G more appealing than its smaller siblings.
Just like what we all saw on the leaked images, all the three Galaxy S21 offer a larger camera bump, which is very eye-catching. The camera bump is directly attached to the frame of the handset and around the side, which is a pleasant design.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch WQGD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X curved display with 515PPI pixel density, 1500 nits peak brightness, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The device is capable of changing the refresh rate from 10-120Hz and it is based on what is being viewed, and this will conserve battery life.
Samsung continues to have a high resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, but this is not supported by default. However, it can be adjusted in the settings.
A high refresh rate is not new in most flagship Android phones, but in the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the refresh rate is adaptive and allows you to use both its full 1440p resolution and the high refresh rate.
In all the S21 series, the under the display fingerprint sensor area is now bigger, ensuring your thumb has a greater chance of logging into your phone.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the S20 Ultra packed all that Samsung could offer, and the latest Galaxy S21 Ultra isn’t any different. Besides the laser autofocus module, the device has a quad-camera setup. The laser autofocus module is added to address some of the focus problems encountered by Galaxy S20 Ultra users.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra enhances the telephoto capabilities when compared to last year’s Galaxy S20 Ultra. This year’s Galaxy S21 Ultra packs 2 telephoto cameras, including a standard 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and another 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom. The enhanced periscope telephoto camera will make it easier to zoom up to 10x digital. Meanwhile, the 10x digital zoom and 10x optical zoom can both work together to efficiently produce 100x hybrid zoom, thereby allowing the Space Zoom feature of Samsung.
One of the two rear cameras is the 108 MP(F/1.8) wide lens from which you can capture 12-bit HDR photos and it supports the Laser Auto-focus, PDAF, and OIS. The other camera is the 12 MP(F/2.2) ultrawide camera with dual pixel PDAD and support for super steady video.
As for the selfies and video calls, the single 40 MP(f/2.2) wide lens does the job.
Performance & Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is powered by the Exynos 2100 in some regions and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the USA, Korea, and China. There will be storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The first two storage options will come with 12GB RAM while the last will come with 16GB RAM.
When compared to last year’s Snapdragon 865, the Snapdragon 888 SoC is claimed to provide 25 percent greater processing power and 25 percent faster graphics rendering.
The Snapdragon 888 SoC comes with a third-generation Snapdragon X60 5G modem to provide improved 5G coverage across global networks. The Snapdragon 888 SoC is also fitted with a Qualcomm Spectra 580 which offers more capabilities of capturing images and videos. For more technical details visit HERE
As for the Exynos 2100, it features one Arm Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.9GHz, three 2.8GHz Cortex-A78 CPU cores, and four 2.2GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Samsung claims that this CPU brings a 30 percent improvement in multi-core performance over the Exynos 990. The company also points to the 5nm process as important, saying that it makes 20% lower power consumption or 10% better overall output.
The Exynos 2100 adopts the latest Mali-G78 MP14 GPU when it comes to graphical performance. As a result, Samsung reports up to 40 percent improved graphic performance. Furthermore, an integrated 5G modem with sub-6GHz and mmWave capabilities is featured on the Exynos 2100. For more technical details visit HERE
The Galaxy S21 Ultra features the same battery capacity of 5,000 mAh as its predecessor, however, the S21 Ultra has a more powerful processor, which will bring more battery optimization. The device supports 25W fast charging tech, 15W fast Qi wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse charging. Meanwhile, Samsung ditched the charger in the box just like Apple did.
The S21 Ultra is the first Galaxy phone to support the S pen. You can now easily take notes, draw, and sketch with the S Pen. The S pen is optional and therefore sold separately (costs $40) and if you want to keep the S pen on the go when it’s not in use, you definitely need to buy a separate Galaxy case which will cost you an additional $69.99.
