Samsung will unveil its next-generation premium smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 5 series, at the brand’s Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event next Wednesday, August 10th.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series, which replaces the Galaxy Watch 4 series from last year, will include two smartwatches: the standard Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
Even though the upcoming smartwatches have yet to be officially teased or their design officially disclosed by Samsung, we already have all the details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 series thanks to electronics safety certification databases and online leaks. In today’s article, we have compiled all of the information, pricing, specs, and design renders that are currently available online.
Design and Specifications of the Galaxy Watch 5 Series
To begin with, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro have a circular screen form factor, similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 4, but this year, neither the Galaxy Watch 5 nor the 5 Pro will have the rotating bezel found on the previous generation Galaxy Watch 3 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
Colors for the Galaxy Watch 5 series are best suited to those who live a youthful and active lifestyle. The standard model of the Galaxy Watch 5 will be available in four colors, according to leaked official renders online: gold, purple, navy green, and blue.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is expected to be available in more toned-down but professional colors like black or gray titanium. This time, leaks indicate that Samsung’s higher-end Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will feature a Sapphire glass front display and a titanium-built body.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series, as flagship smartwatches, are expected to have excellent durability standards, such as an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and MIL-STD-810G for salt, shock, and radiation protection.
We anticipate that the internals of the Galaxy Watch 5 series will be similar to those of the Galaxy Watch 4 series. To put things in context, the Galaxy Watch 4 was powered by Samsung’s industry-leading Exynos W920 smartwatch SoC, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.
In terms of endurance, both the Watch 5 and 5 Pro are said to have longer battery life than their predecessors. The Galaxy Watch 5 will have a 276 mAh battery for the 40mm model and a 398mAh battery for the 44mm model. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is said to offer a significant battery upgrade, with a 572mAh battery capacity. Prominently, Samsung is said to offer 10W fast charging support on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, which is nearly double what the Galaxy Watch 4 series currently offers.
Finally, both watches will be outfitted with Google’s wearOS 3.5 skinned with Samsung’s One UI Watch 4.5.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series Pricing and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will be available in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm, whereas the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will only be available in one size: 46mm.
The Pink Gold, Gray, and Silver Galaxy Watch 5 40mm will be available. The Bluetooth model will reportedly cost €300, while the LTE model will cost €350.
