Qualcomm revealed the new chip that will be included for most upcoming flagship phones in 2023. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC comes after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and has a number of improvements over them. From what we’ve seen in the past, many Android OEMs announce right after the event that their new flagship smartphone will be coming out soon with the latest processor. These companies compete to be the first to bring the latest flagship SoC to market. This year is no different, as many brands have already said they will soon release a smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Check out the best upcoming phones that will support this chip.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series
The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are three of the upcoming smartphones that have already been tested on Geekbench. They all have the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. When the benchmark was done, it showed that the three clusters had core speeds of 3.36GHz in the prime, 2.80GHz in the performance, and 2.02GHz in the efficiency.
But the 8 Gen 2 CPU won’t just be in the Samsung flagship phones of the future. It will also be in a lot of other phones in the future. Some of them, like the Vivo X90 Pro and iQOO 11, have also been used as benchmarks. But pay close attention, because the speed of the Prime core is listed as 3.19GHz. Qualcomm told us the exact value, which was 3.1872GHz. So, why do the Samsungs’ clock speeds run faster?
Ice Universe has said in the past that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have a “high-frequency version” that will only be sold in Europe. Even though the models we’ve seen so far are from the US, it’s likely that this is a global issue and not just a European one.
Now, the leaker gives more details and confirms that the Prime CPU core will actually run at 3.36GHz, not 3.2GHz as was previously said. But the GPU will also work faster than before, at 719MHz instead of 680MHz.
Qualcomm has released “AC” versions that are faster than the base processor every so often. For example, the model number for the Snapdragon 855 is SM8150, and the model number for the 855+, which increased the speed of the Prime core from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz, is SM8150-AC. This should be the SM8550-AC, since the SM8550-AB is the 8 Gen 2 that was shown off this week.
It’s not clear if this processor, which will be in the Galaxy S23 series, will be called Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. But it looks like Qualcomm and TSMC were able to find enough room for a good overclock.
Official numbers from Qualcomm show that the GPU is 25% faster and the CPU in the 8 Gen 2 is 35% faster than its 8 Gen 1. This new chip will be much faster than the old one. But it’s hard to say how much faster because benchmark results shouldn’t be interpreted yet.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which is coming soon, is expected to come out in January of next year.
Xiaomi 13 series
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 2 processor could also come to the Xiaomi 13 series. The processor could come with both the regular version of the series and the Pro variant. The screens will be 6.36 inches and have a resolution of FHD+. A QHD+ resolution could be added to the Pro version of the series. People say that the series will come out on the global market by the middle of November. As we saw with the Xiaomi 12S series, Leica will work with Xiaomi to make the camera system for the phone.
OnePlus 11
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm will power the OnePlus 11 when it comes out. The information was confirmed by a statement made by the brand itself on the Chinese social media site Weibo.
It will also have up to 256 GB of storage on the inside and up to 16 GB of RAM. The screen will be 6.7 inches and will be made of AMOLED. With a 120 Hz refresh rate and a fingerprint reader built in.
Similar to the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the OnePlus 11 will have three cameras: a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 32-megapixel telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom. The OnePlus model will come with a big 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged quickly with 100 watts.
iQOO 11 Pro and iQOO 11
In the past few years, iQOO has made some of the best smartphones, such as the iQOO 7 Legend, iQOO 9, iQOO 9 SE, etc. The company has no plans to stop anytime soon, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor will soon be in the iQOO 11 and iQOO 11 Pro. The iQOO 11 Pro’s specs sheet got out, and it showed that the phone would have a 6.78-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Most likely, the smartphone will have 8GB and 12GB RAM options, with 256GB and 512GB of internal storage, respectively. The back of the device could have a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 14.6MP telephoto sensor, making it possible for it to have three cameras. Regarding the battery, we can see a 4700mAh battery that supports 200W fast charging.
Realme GT 3 Pro
Even though there isn’t a lot of information about the upcoming smartphone by Realme that can be found online. But it has been confirmed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor will be used in the phone. It might have other features like 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage on the inside. We have to wait until we find out more about the device.
Motorola Moto X40
Motorola will also unveil its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model. Which is inside the Moto X40 and comes with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage.
The 6.67-inch screen has a high refresh rate of 144 Hz, but its resolution is still unknown. It has a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged quickly with 68 watts and runs Android 13.
It will have a main sensor with 50 megapixels, as well as a wide-angle sensor with 50 megapixels and a telephoto sensor with 12 megapixels.
Vivo X90 Pro
Vivo’s new X90 series will be released on November 22. Most of the work on the standard model will be done by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor. For the X90 Pro+ model, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be in charge.
The Sony IMX989 will be the main sensor for the X90 Pro+ when it comes to optics. It will also come with ultra-wide-angle sensors with 48 megapixels, depth sensors with 50 megapixels, and telephoto sensors with 64 megapixels.
The front of the device will have a 6.78-inch screen with a 2K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Which will be able to charge quickly at 80 watts and have a 4,700 mAh battery.
Oppo Find X6
Also, Oppo has said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor will be used in its next flagship series. It looks like this chip will be in the model of the Find X6 Pro.
We already know that this advanced model will have a Sony IMX989 sensor with an inch size and 50 megapixels of resolution. This makes it one of the best smartphones on the market.
There will be two extra 50-megapixel sensors as well. There are also rumors that it will have an AMOLED screen with a 2K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate.
