Popular Chinese smartphone brand Vivo announced that most models would support India’s Jio 5G network before October 2022. However, not all 5G-compatible Vivo phones will be able to work with the network at the initial stages.
This comes up following the announcement that an Indian telecom operator, Reliance Jio, will launch its 5G network in some parts of the country. Nonetheless, most phones won’t be able to support Jio’s 5G if they do not have OEMS to issue the OTA updates even though their internet connection supports the 5G network. Hence, Vivo is one of the famous smartphone brands that will meet Reliance Jio’s criteria for 5G connectivity.
Recently, Vivo also revealed that it also created a partnership with JioGamesCloud, from Reliance Jio’s gaming platform on 5G technology. Consequently, Vivo conducted the performance of cloud gaming on Jio’s 5G network using the Vivo X70 Pro Plus model to test the platform.
Note that the Reliance Jio telecom operator has made positive steps towards launching 5G networks around four cities in India. Their quest before this year runs out is to expand their 5G service fleet to all areas of the country. This is also why the service is currently available by invitation.
As per information obtained from the Gizchina website, India’s Reliance Jio stands as the only operator that can accommodate a low-frequency 5G. Also, the telecom company states that it would be the first and only brand in India to provide standalone 5G services to its customers. Meanwhile, other 5G networks will be offered through NSA technology by specific carriers.
Previously, Samsung India disclosed that it had formed partnerships with Indian network operators (Airtel, Jio, and Vi) to test the requisite OTA update, which it plans to release by November 2022. Also, an anonymous insider has revealed to ET News that Apple plans to provide 5G functionality for Indian carriers to the iPhone in the form of a software update that would be released as early as December.
India has the second-largest smartphone market in the world, but the development of 5G networks in the Indian market is still in its early stages. India’s 5G network services was introduced this month, while other countries have had 5G from 2019 to early 2020. Only a few cities and areas in India have 5G signals.
