The Redmi Note 9 Pro is one of the most promising mid-ranger phones in Nigeria. To be honest, it is not really possible to refute the value-for-money the Note 9 Pro offers. Now with the new 5G variant being made available in the Chinese market, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G will be the best and affordable midrange phone to buy in early 2021.
The back panel of the phone is perhaps the most distinguishable design feature. However, the phone comes with some impressive specs that are not found in the non-5G Note 9 Pro. A 120Hz refresh rate display, a 5G-enabled and faster Snapdragon 750G chipset, support for 33W fast charging tech, and IP53 rating for water resistance.
One of the phone’s attractions seems to be the camera setup. The quad-camera setup on the back consists of a 108MP (f/1.8) wide lens, an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens with 118˚ FOV, a 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. It sports a 16MP lens on the front for taking selfies.
The 108 MP wide lens is Samsung’s latest ISOCELL HM2 camera sensor. Just like the ISOCELL HM1, it uses nine-pixel binning tech and can do up to 3x lossless zoom. Xiaomi claims that the sensor’s dual native ISO tech will work with the new night mode to give better night shots.
Instead of offering an AMOLED screen, Xiaomi has opted for an LCD screen just like the Non-5G variant but upgraded the refresh rate from 60Hz to 120hz, which is a welcome development. Xiaomi claims that it is an adaptive display and it will automatically change the refresh rate between 30Hz and 120Hz, which should help in the reduction of battery consumption.
The 6.67-inch Full HD+ display comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a pixel density of 395PPI, and typical screen brightness of ~ 450nit is very okay. The device has a display that is ideal for binge-watching Netflix and playing video games.
Unlike in the non-5G variant, the Realme Note 9 Pro 5G comes with a more powerful chipset. You’ll find a Snapdragon 750G 5G (8 nm)under the hood which is 5G capable and coupled with 6/8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded via an SD card.

The Snapdragon 750G has an octa-core Kryo 570 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz and it is equipped with X52 5G modem-RF system which supports mmWave and Sub-6 GHz spectrums, thereby granting widespread access to 5G.
The device has a 4,820 mAh battery that can comfortably last for one day of moderate use. A 33 W fast charger is included in the box. Similarly, the device comes with Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 UI and it is based on the Android 10 operating system. The UI has been further optimized and improved when compared to previous versions.
